What is a plum pudding and why will you find the best one available in an art gallery?

For the answer, follow your nose to James-Ben: Studio and Galleries during the holiday season. While supplies last, limited quantities of this traditional English confection may be purchased at 129 North main Street through Christmas Eve or until sold out. The 2009 vintage, steaming on the premises and wafting fruity come-hithers past the noses of gallery patrons, will be available December 8th at the gallery. The puddings sell for $32 for a dessert that generously serves 10-12. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Plum pudding brings together the best qualities of a bread pudding and a fruit cake. The name "plum" is used in its 19th century English connotation meaning dried fruit. Lovingly prepared by the hands of gallery partners James-Ben Stockton and Daniel Luther, the Christmas in Olde Greeneville plum pudding revives a recipe from James-Ben's great, great-grandmother. "I'm told that the sense of smell is the most closely connected to memory. Our puddings have the ability to carry you back three generations or more, awakening memories you didn't even know you had", says Stockton. The gallery's first public offering of puddings sold out within two hours. A vastly increased production the next few years proved popular but wearisome, resulting in the current fixed output of two hundred puddings . Hence the strong recommendation of advance reservations. "We get more requests and more repeat customers every year", says partner Daniel Luther. "People have realized that plum pudding used to be a holiday staple not because it was traditional but because it was good!"
Puddings are fully cooked, soaked and preserved in brandy, and come in a specially commissioned handmade ceramic pudding mold with recipe for hard sauce and instructions for flaming to add the touch of mysterious drama to festive gatherings. Shipping is available.
